Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Proverbs 14:34 (NKJV)

Righteousness.  With regard to this Proverb, righteousness is the morally correct choices/actions/responses made by us as we live our lives.  What makes them morally correct?  They are morally correct when they align with the truth of God’s word to us found in the Bible.  It is the Lord who gave us a moral center when He created us in His image.  And it is the Lord who is the moral law-giver, having provided guidance and direction in the word He has given and protected from distortion as it has been passed down to us through the ages.

Scripture tells us that righteous actions are noticed.  It also relays that such actions bring honor to the person who acts righteously.  The Christian knows this is true, for we are commanded by our Lord to pursue righteousness and holiness that the Lord would be glorified in us.  What holds true for the individual also holds for a nation of people for even as the Lord is glorified by the individual’s righteousness, He is glorified when a nation is governed based on His moral law.  That nation will be honored by other nations and blessed by the Lord.

Sadly, many of our leaders have a less than righteous agenda.  Rather than governing for the good of the people by allowing God’s morals to be their standard, they tout evil as good, denying God’s truths regarding gender identity, sexual preference, the role and authority of parents, the proper makeup of a family unit, and the sacredness of life.  Such leaders fall into the category of those whom God has given over to a depraved mind, who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death [God’s eternal judgment/wrath], not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them” (Romans 1:32 [statement in brackets mine for clarification]).  Such leaders speak of freedom, yet the encouragement to sin by those in power only places those in their care under greater bondage.  There is no freedom to be found in sin; freedom is only found in Christ.

In the U.S., we have been given a great gift by the Lord.  We have the right to vote for change.  Brothers and Sisters, your vote is more important than ever.  I encourage you to make voting a priority this year.  I also ask you to consider the agenda(s) of our political parties and vote based on the following truth.  For the Christian, the upcoming election should not be about personalities, minorities, race, or relationships.  It should be about which candidate has a platform that more closely adheres to the moral commands of the One who desires only His best for us: the Most High God.  These are the people who should be our leaders, for the closer our leaders govern our nation with respect to God’s commands, the closer we come to truly being “one nation, under God”.  The choice is yours.
