We remember those who have protected our country, and each one of us, by their commitment to serve our nation: both abroad and at home. In honor of those who have fallen in battle, let us celebrate the way of life they died to preserve by passionately embracing the responsibilities that come with our freedom.
If you or a member of your family has served our country, we wish to thank you for the service and the sacrifices that were made in the defense of our country and our freedom.
We would also like to take this opportunity to ask you to remember another One who died for you: Jesus Christ. He also fought a battle on your behalf. A battle that you could never win. A battle to give you a life worth celebrating and to set you free to pursue the purpose for which you were created: bringing glory to the Most High God.
The weapons Jesus used to fight this battle? A sinless life and love for you that is beyond comprehension. A love that compelled Him to sacrifice His life to offer you the opportunity to be forgiven for your sin.
Sin. The wrong things that we think and do in defiance of a Holy God. In our hearts, we know right from wrong; God gave us that ability. In our minds, many times, we choose wrong over right, resulting in sin. All of us have done this. No one is the exception, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” It is sin that separates us from God and His purpose for us. And it is your sin that God will judge when you stand before Him.
Because you have sinned, you are guilty. And a Sovereign and Just God will judge you and sentence you to the punishment He has already declared: “The wages of sin is death.”
Death. An eternity in Hell, forever separated from God’s Presence and His Blessings. This is the penalty for the sin. A punishment without mercy, with no hope of reprieve once it is declared.
But Jesus has provided the way for you to have freedom and life! Dying on a cross, Jesus took your punishment upon Himself, satisfying God’s justice and providing the only way for you to receive mercy and forgiveness. Three days after Jesus was buried, He rose from the grave to offer you hope for an eternity with God. “The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
This is the battle that Jesus won. Through His death and resurrection you have been offered forgiveness and eternal life. A life with God that begins now if you will receive it.
Will you acknowledge your sin, asking God for His forgiveness, and turn from doing things your way to living for Him (repent)? Will you receive Jesus as your Lord, the Boss of your life? If so, then tell Jesus in prayer.
Lord Jesus,
I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that you died for my sins that I might receive forgiveness. I believe that you rose from the dead to give me hope. I ask You to forgive me as I turn from living life my way to living life your way. I want you to be the Lord of my life. I ask you to come into my life and my heart, taking charge of my life. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for saving me.
Amen
